Blues & Soul No. 746, August 1997, and the UK caught Missy Elliott right as she arrived. All attitude, a red-lit close-up under the line "One to Keep a Close Eye On," printed the same summer Supa Dupa Fly rewrote what a female rap star could be. Britain's long-running black music bible read the moment early. Catching Missy on the way up makes this one of the quietly prophetic covers of the late nineties.
